"No More Tears"

The above sentence was the happiest thing I'd seen in a while. Too bad it was written on a baby shampoo. I guess there's no salvation for me.

Torvalds' Folly

Read this message on the subject of C++ as a programming language from Linus Torvalds.
To give you a little context, this is the git mailing list (or rather, newsgroup) which is the revision control system they chose after all the controversy around BitKeeper (which was proprietary and not at all suitable for the Linux kernel.)
Torvalds and others are developing git from ground up and they have opted to use C as opposed to C++. This message here is Torvalds going medieval on some guy because he suggested that they could start using C++ features to make their software better.
He even mentions STL and Boost as samples of bad C++! This is not the first time I've seen him act like this (not the opinion, but the behavior) which might be expected from someone who has zero time for newbies, but the opinion. Man, is he wrong! He just doesn't understand that a language is just as good as the programmer. He seems not to realize the "zero-overhead" rule of the C++ language: that no feature of the language has any runtime overhead when not used.
Anyway, I knew Torvalds was a bad leader (because of his attitude towards free software (as opposed to merely open-source software)) but I still counted him as a brilliant programmer and engineer. I guess we cannot rule out the "engineer" part, because of the evidence in the form of the kernel, but the "programmer" part has become under a dark cloud in my mind.

Nothing Lasts Forever

I was staring out of a window, above the clouds, without my glasses... everything looked bright white. My whole world was that bright white window. I was wishing that I could stay there, not because it was beautiful and peaceful, but because my mind was blank. I had was thinking about nothing. I don't remember anything about the guy that was sitting next to me. The only thing I was thinking about was... I don't want to write it down. I will remember forever what I was thinking about there and then.
But "Nothing lasts forever, even cold November rain."

Updated Movie List

There are a lot of new films, not all great or even good, but I have a good-quality version of Notting Hill now, so I'm not complaining!
Also, just recently, I found out that the show/hide feature of my movie list was not working in Internet Exploiter. Versions 6 and below were affected, but I'm not sure about 7. The problem is that IE doesn't understand some pretty mature and standard features of CSS. What can I say? Anyway, I changed the code and placed in a workaround that should work even for the stupid IE.
On a side note, why are people still using IE anyway? It's dead! Even 7 was dead at birth! Install Firefox or Seamonkey or GranParadiso (although not stable enough yet) and also install Opera (which is a great browser, with only a couple of rough edges) for those sites whose idiot owners don't care enough to check their content for validity. And live free!
Somebody stop my ramblings! Here's the list:
